Diplomas

Diplomas Issued by Purpose School

 

Students can receive a regular Dogwood Diploma or an Adult Graduation Diploma (if over the age of 18) from the Purpose Secondary School upon completion of the required course work.  This diploma allows access to secondary education programs at the many colleges and Universities.

The adult student will receive an Adult Dogwood at the completion of this program.

2023 Graduation Plan

In order to meet graduation requirements and be awarded a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma), students must earn a minimum of 80 credits and write the Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment and Grades 10 and 12 Literacy Assessments. The 80 credits must include 52 credits for required courses (including 8 credits of Career Education courses) and a minimum of 28 elective credits.

Purpose Secondary offers courses starting at Grade 8-12.

WHAT GRADES ARE TAUGHT HERE?

DO I GET FULL CREDIT FOR COURSE COMPLETION?

Yes. All courses taught at Purpose are recognized by the Ministry of Education and they count towards high school completion and the BC Dogwood Diploma. All teachers at Purpose have their B.C. teaching credentials.

HOW MANY CLASSES DOES A FULL-TIME STUDENT TAKE?

Purpose is on a linear system. Students are enrolled in courses in the morning and in the afternoon.  Students who attend for the whole year complete eight courses.

13 and 19 to attend Purpose.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GET INTO PURPOSE?

Purpose fully subscribes to the the Ministry of Education guidelines for Independent Schools. Once the Provincial graduation requirements are met, students receive the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma. Just as in the public school system, Purpose students must complete 80 credits in grade ten, eleven and twelve.

CAN I GRADUATE FROM PURPOSE?

Yes.  Purpose School is one short block from the New Westminster Station Skytrain.

IS PURPOSE SCHOOL CLOSE TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION?

CAN I GO TO POST SECONDARY EDUCATION WITH MY PURPOSE EDUCATION?

Yes, many Purpose students go on to community colleges, universities and trades programs.

WHY DO STUDENTS CHOOSE PURPOSE OVER OTHER SCHOOLS?

Purpose Secondary School is available to students from all over the Lower Mainland. Students come to Purpose because the public system, or their previous school, did not work for them.


Many students prefer to learn in a smaller educational setting with smaller classes. We are a school community supporting students emotionally as well as academically.

ARE THERE TUITION FEES OR SCHOOL FEES?

No. There are no fees for students.
